Phil .Literature Essay Example for Free
Phil .Literature Essay Philippine abstract creation during the American Period in the Philippines was prodded by two noteworthy advancements in training and culture. One is the presentation of free open guidance for all offspring of young and two, the utilization of English as mode of guidance in all degrees of instruction in state funded schools. Free government funded training made information and data open to a more prominent number of Filipinos. The individuals who benefited of this training through school had the option to improve their economic wellbeing and joined a decent number of instructed masses who turned out to be a piece of the countryââ¬â¢s working class. The utilization of English as mode of guidance acquainted Filipinos with Anglo-American methods of thought, culture and life ways that would be implanted in the writing delivered as well as in the mind of the countryââ¬â¢s instructed class. It was this informed class that would be the wellspring of a lively Philippine Literature in English. Philippine writing in English, as an immediate consequence of American colonization of the nation, couldn't evade being imitative of American models of composing particularly during its time of apprenticeship. The verse composed by early artists showed considered endeavors at versification as in the accompanying sonnet which is verification of the poetââ¬â¢s rather rudimentary exercise in the English language: Vacation days finally are here, And we have a fabulous time so dear, All young men and young ladies do readily cheer, This invited period of the year. Toward the beginning of June in school weââ¬â¢ll meet; A harder errand will we complete And on the off chance that we bomb we should rehash That equivalent assignment without retreat. We essentially rest to come back again To class where young men and young ladies acquire The Creatorââ¬â¢s blessing to men Whose optimistic expectations in us remain. Excursion implies a period for play For youthful and old in night and day My desire for everything is to be gay, And underhandedness none lead you off track Juan F. Salazar Philippines Free Press, May 9, 1909| The sonnet was anthologized in the main assortment of verse in English, Filipino Poetry, altered by Rodolfo Dato (1909 â⬠1924). Among the writers included in this collection were Proceso Sebastian Maximo Kalaw, Fernando Maramag, Leopoldo Uichanco, Jose Ledesma, Vicente Callao, Santiago Sevilla, Bernardo Garcia, Francisco Africa, Pablo Anzures, Carlos P. Romulo, Francisco Tonogbanua, Juan Pastrana, Maria Agoncillo, Paz Marquez Benitez, Luis Dato and numerous others. Another collection, The English German Anthology of Poetsedited by Pablo Laslo was distributed and secured artists distributed from 1924-1934 among whom were Teofilo D. Agcaoili, Aurelio Alvero, Horacio de la Costa, Amador T. Daguio, Salvador P. Lopez, Angela Manalang Gloria, Trinidad Tarrosa, Abelardo Subido and Jose Garcia Villa, among others. A third pre-war assortment of verse was altered via Carlos Bulosan, Chorus for America: Six Philippine Poets. The six artists in this assortment were Jose Garcia Villa, Rafael Zulueta da Costa, Rodrigo T. Feria, C. B. Meticulousness, Cecilio Baroga and Carlos Bulosan. In fiction, the time of apprenticeship in artistic writing in English is set apart by impersonation of the style of narrating and severe adherence to the specialty of the short story as rehearsed by well known American fictionists. Early short story scholars in English were regularly named as the Andersons or Saroyans or the Hemingways of Philippine letters. Leopoldo Yabes in his investigation of the Philippine short story in English from 1925 to 1955 focuses to these models of American fiction applying significant impact on the early works of story journalists like Francisco Arcellana, A. E. Litiatco, Paz Latorena. . At the point when the University of the Philippines was established in 1908, a world class gathering of scholars in English started to apply impact among the culturati. The U. P. Authors Club established in 1926, had expressed that one of its points was to upgrade and proliferate the language of Shakespeare. In 1925, Paz Marquez Benitez short story, Dead Stars was distributed and was made the milestone of the development of the Filipino author in English. Not long after Benitez, short story journalists started distributing stories not, at this point imitative of American models. In this way, story authors like Icasiano Calalang, A. E. Litiatco, Arturo Rotor, Lydia Villanueva, Paz Latorena , Manuel Arguilla started distributing stories showing both gifted utilization of the language and a sharp Filipino reasonableness. This blend of writing in an acquired tongue while harping on Filipino traditions and conventions reserved the artistic yield of significant Filipino fictionists in English during the American time frame. In this manner, the significant books of the period, for example, the Filipino Rebel, by Maximo Kalaw, and His Native Soil by Juan C. Laya, are talks on social personality, nationhood and being Filipino done in the English language. Stories, for example, How My Brother Leon Brought Home a Wife by Manuel Arguilla examined the view just as the folkways of Ilocandia while N. V. M. Gonzalesââ¬â¢s books and stories, for example, Children of the Ash Covered Loam, present the scene of Mindoro, in the entirety of its traditions and customs while designing its characters in the human issue of sentimentality and destitution. Aside from Arguilla and Gonzales, noted fictionists during the period included Francisco Arcellana, whom Jose Garcia Villa commended as a virtuoso narrator, Consorcio Borje, Aida Rivera, Conrado Pedroche, Amador Daguio, Sinai Hamada, Hernando Ocampo, Fernando Maria Guerrero. Jose Garcia Villa himself composed a few short stories yet dedicated the greater part of his opportunity to verse. In 1936, when the Philippine Writers League was sorted out, Filipino authors in English started talking about the estimation of writing in the public arena. Started and driven by Salvador P. Lopez, whose articles on Literature and Societyprovoked discusses, the conversation focused on ordinary writing, I. e. , drew in or submitted writing versus the craftsmanship for artââ¬â¢s purpose artistic direction. In any case, this conversation inquisitively left out the issue of imperialism and provincial writing and the entire spot of scholarly writing in English under a frontier set-up that was the Philippines at that point. With Salvador P. Lopez, the exposition in English picked up the advantage in everyday talk on legislative issues and administration. Polemicists who used to write in Spanish like Claro M. Recto, gradually began utilizing English in the conversation of recent developments even as paper dailies moved away from Spanish revealing into English. Among the writers, Federico Mangahas had a simple office with the language and the paper as sort. Other noted writers during the period were Fernando Maramag, Carlos P. Romulo , Conrado Ramirez. Then again, the blooming of a lively scholarly convention because of recorded occasions didn't inside and out hamper artistic creation in the local or indigenous dialects. Truth be told, the early time of the twentieth century was surprising for the huge artistic yield of every significant language in the different scholarly class. It was during the early American time frame that rebellious plays, utilizing the type of the zarsuwela, were mounted. Zarsuwelistas Juan Abad, Aurelio Tolentino ,Juan Matapang Cruz. Juan Crisostomo Sotto mounted the works of art like Tanikalang Ginto, Kahapon, Ngayon at Bukas and Hindi Ako Patay, all coordinated against the American radicals. Patricio Marianoââ¬â¢s Anak ng Dagat and Severino Reyesââ¬â¢s Walang Sugat are similarly astounding zarsuwelas arranged during the period. Just before World War II, Wilfredo Maria Guerrero would pick up strength in theater through his one-demonstration plays which he visited through his versatile theater. In this manner, Wanted a Chaperone and The Forsaken Housebecame well known in grounds all through the archipelago. The tale in Tagalog, Iloko, Hiligaynon and Sugbuanon additionally created during the period helped to a great extent by the consistent distribution of week by week magazines like the Liwayway, Bannawag and Bisaya which serialized the books. Among the early Tagalog authors of the twentieth century were Ishmael Amado, Valeriano Hernandez Pena, Faustino Aguilar, Lope K. Santos and Lazaro Francisco. Ishmael Amadoââ¬â¢s Bulalakaw ng Pag-asa distributed in 1909 was probably the soonest novel that managed the subject of American government in the Philippines. The epic, nonetheless, was not discharged from the print machine until 1916, at which time, the creator, by his own confirmation and in the wake of having been sent as a pensionado to the U. S. , had different thoughts separated from those he wrote in the novel. Valeriano Hernandez Penaââ¬â¢s Nena at Neneng portrays the narrative of two ladies who happened to be best of companions as they adapt to their associations with the men in their lives. Nena prevails in her wedded life while Neneng experiences a blustery marriage on account of her envious spouse. Faustino Aguilar distributed Pinaglahuan, an adoration triangle set in the early long stretches of the century when the laborers development was being framed. The novelââ¬â¢s legend, Luis Gatbuhay, is a specialist in a printery who isimprisoned for a fraudulent indictment and loses his affection, Danding, to his opponent Rojalde, child of a well off entrepreneur. Lope K. Santos, Banaag at Sikat has nearly a similar topic and theme as the legend of the novel, Delfin, additionally begins to look all starry eyed at a rich lady, little girl of a well off landowner. The romantic tale obviously is set additionally inside the foundation of advancement of the workerââ¬â¢s worker's organization development and all through the novel, Santos connects with the perusers in long treatises and talks on communism and private enterprise. Numerous other Tagalog writers composed on varieties of a similar topic, I. e. , the exchange of destiny, love and social equity. Among these journalists are Inigo Ed Regalado, Roman Reyes, Fausto J. Galauran, Susana de Guzman, Rosario de Guzman-Lingat, Lazaro Francisco, Hilaria Labog, Rosalia Aguinaldo, Amado V. Hernandez. A considerable lot of these essayists had the option to deliver at least three books as Soledad Reyes would substantiate in her book which is the consequence of her paper,

The Use of Intensity and Passion as Resources for Social Transformation
Baldwin saw his race lynched, beaten, and genuinely tormented, close by white Americaââ¬â¢s detachment towards this social issue. He saw firsthand the inadequacies of his nation. Then, his dad muddled this serious reality, which likely resembled a comparably concealed truth of white individuals his age whose guardians over and over escaped such imbalances since it was simpler than confronting them head-on. For Baldwin, trouncing social shamefulness requires the white manââ¬â¢s information on the best way to adore the Negro, to cherish one must endure reality by confronting their feelings of dread of encountering the fiendish and obscure. Incidentally, the main underhanded and obscure is that of the white manââ¬â¢s private feelings of dread and longings anticipated onto the Negro, dread of the difficult reality that life is sad and passing is inescapable. The Negro pretty much acknowledges his inevitable demise, since all through American history he was assaulted, tormented, embarrassed, and encountered lost human personality and human authority from standing up to the turned excellence of torment (Baldwin, 98-99). Due to frequent usage, the Windows registry and the hard disk can become damaged. This can lead to slowness and sluggishness of the computer. In fact, several programs and applications may become non-functional and the overall performance of the computer can become extremely erratic. So to prevent these from happening, it is important to know a few tips and tricks that can help your computer run smoothly and uninterruptedly. There are three in-built applications that can significantly speed up and improve the working of your computer. These are : #1 Disk Cleanup #2 Disk Defragmenter #3 Windows Registry Editor To access the first two, either type cleanmgr.exe and defrag.exe (only for Windows 7) in the Run box from the start menu, or follow this navigation path: Start Programs Accessories System Tools Disk Cleanup or Disk Defragmenter. Disk Cleanup First one is a utility that will prompt the user to first scan any one of the drives. Disk Cleanup (cleanmgr.exe) is a computer maintenance utility included in Microsoft Windows designed to free up disk space on a computers hard drive. The utility first searches and analyzes the hard drive for files that are no longer of any use, and then removes the unnecessary files. On completing the scan, which may take quite a while if your computer is heavily loaded with data, the utility will give how many files are there exactly in the drive and will prompt the user to start cleaning the drive. By cleaning is meant deleting the redundant and unwanted files and data that are no longer in use. Such data could include recycle bin contents, history and temporary folders, unused desktop icons, recently used documents lists, duplicate files, corrupt or damaged files, multi-user profile data, remnants of programs that are no longer in use etc. Disk Defragmenter The second one on the other hand is needed to bring all the pieces and fragments of a file in one place. This increases disk space and also reduces the time taken by the processor to access a single destination, thereby increasing the processorâs as well as the computerâs speed. Windows Registry Editor The third utility, the registry is a massive database of information pertaining to many things, some important, some moderately important and others not-so-important. Mostly, changes made on your computer during the installations and un-installations of programs and applications are recorded in the registry entries, each of which consists of a key and a value. The keys can get messed up due to faulty programming or bugs or viruses and even external factors like incorrect file associations and electrical surges etc. This can render the registry corrupted or non-functional, and since a lot of the registry data is required by the processors itself for the computerâs operations, a corrupt registry might spell the doom for your computer. One can solve the problems using the editor of registry, but unfortunately it is very difficult to use, unlike the other two utilities. A single mistake might prove costly. That is why using the registry or system optimizer might be a better idea. Such software can be downloaded from the internet. Another way of speeding up the computer is to get rid of the startup programs that hog the CPU. Although the system optimizer too can solve this issue, it can be done manually also by opening the system configuration window by typing msconfig.exe in the Run box and hitting Enter. This guest artilce is written by Alex Trots, who also writes for pckeeper.zeobit.com, a site featuring lots of registry cleaner tips and how-tos on disk defragmenter.

Realization in quot;the Open Boatquot; Essay - 1473 Words
The Open Boat by Stephen Crane is a factual account of his adventures at sea, or as he declares, the Experience of Four Men from the Sunk Steamer COMMODORE (48). He and three other men--the ships captain, oiler, and cook--escape the sinking steamer in a small dinghy, and spend thirty wretched hours on the rough sea before reaching the Florida coast. Despite undergoing these events firsthand, Crane narrates the story in third person, indicating his presence in the dinghy through the character of the correspondent. As time passes during their perils at sea, Crane, or the correspondent, creeps ever closer to an impending epiphany: the realization of the indifference of nature and the relative insignificance of men--essentially,â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Notice that Crane uses personification to give the sea a conscious, purposeful, ill-tempered quality, characteristics further evidenced in the lines, there was a terrible grace in the move of the waves, and they came in silence, s ave for the snarling of the crests, and later, there was a preparatory and long growl in the speech of them (50, 57) The words snarling and growl here denote a malicious, hostile intent in the waves, traits that exists, of course, only in the minds of the four castaways; and all of the imagery up to this point attributes characteristics to the sea that actually represent skewed, frightened embellishment on the part of the men in the boat. The apex of Cranes exaggerated personification of the sea can be seen in an ironic description of the water: Occasionally, a great spread of water, like white flames, swarmed into (the boat) (53). By likening water to fire, Crane again insinuates that the men in the boat have a false, biased impression of the sea, because it poses such a threat to them. This misconception on the part of the men takes on more meaning later. Diabetes A Metabolic Disorder - 1705 Words
Diabetes mellitus, commonly known as diabetes, is a metabolic disorder characterized by chronic high blood sugar levels. It is caused by an absolute or functional deficiency of circulating insulin, resulting in an inability to transfer glucose from the bloodstream into tissues where it is needed as fuel (Ahmed, Laing and Yates 2011). The disruption in the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins interferes with the secretion or action of insulin, which plays a vital role in the metabolism and utilization of energy from the nutrients especially carbohydrates. Insulin is produced in the pancreas and secreted in the gastrointestinal tract in the response to high blood sugar levels after ingestion of a substance (REFERENCE). Theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Diabetes can be diagnosed and monitored by either a random or fasting blood sugar test, oral glucose tolerance test and using HBA1c. The oral glucose tolerance test, which is considered as a gold standard, has proven to be more useful, especially in clarifying the diagnosis and considering impaired glucose tolerance and impaired fasting glycaemia (Blann, 2013). In addition, it may also be diagnosed by noticeable symptoms which arise from high blood sugar. These includes polyuria (urination), polydipsia (thirst) and weight loss (despite adequate consumption of food), visual disturbances and at times frequent recurrent infection and exhaustion (REFERENCES). Where there is presence or absence of symptoms known as asymptomatic, the clinician will then request for a urine sample to check for the presence of glucose and a fasting plasma glucose level in your blood to confirm a clear diagnosis. The finger prick test is an appropriate test for all patients, it has been approved and backed up by the national quality assurance scheme. It enables health professionals to carry out finger-prick Hb/c tests by matching the results found in the laboratory to the quality assurance results. Observation #1On Family Life Essay Example For Students
Observation #1:On Family Life Essay It was just like Vancouver, everything is so unstable! For five days straight there were golden mornings and glowing afternoons. Then when Saturday crept up on the celestial planner, the skys face lifted to gray and drizzling. If this weather change could be viewed with thought maybe it would seem almost shocking. It was not really cold, but it looked like it. Mom occupied herself in the kitchen, doing what really was not necessary. Oddly enough, she was always standing there doing all the somethings, but the place managed to still look like a mess. No one in this house wanted to cook anymore either, so we just scrounged around, digging whatever there was to fill our stomach. It does not matter anyway, everything, even good things, tastes like cardboard these days. My father blamed my mother for her poor cooking, I just blamed the weather. I sat, dull-eyed, at the dining table, staring at some dried carnation that hung so peculiarly from that wall lamp that vainly attempted to impersonate an old fashioned streetlight (too bad streetlights were not that synthetic, bleached white). I shrugged it off as I knew Mom had a strange preference for decoration. I mean, the powder pink that stained nearly every wall of this house was her idea. Sometimes, it came to a point where I just want to scratch relentlessly at those colors, or take a permanent marker and scribble curse words all over it, or draw grotesque bleeding figures on it. Not this morning, I sat there idlyFood brought to my mouth like a robotic twitch. In fact, I hardly knew what it was that I ate. Dad came through the door from his errands, and also took a seat beside me without a word. He started to scoop food into his mouth, eyes glazed over and troubled with wrinkles of worry. I could scarcely feel his presence if not for his physical form sitting next to me, reflecting my own action of shoveling feed into a muzzle. I continued to daze disapprovingly into that hideous, died carnation, and he continued to glaze over into his troubles. At length, Mom came in, settled down a bowl of some sort of leftovers from last night. It struck me that food did not look like food anymore, of course not, it was Moms cooking! That thought did not linger. Mom stuffed a spoonful in her mouth and glanced at Dad. She asked him about his errands casually, almost callously. Dad did not look at her, but he answered her in monosyllabic words. She seemed annoyed and proceeded to yell at him, something that we were all accustomed to by now. Dad merely blinked, didnt even bother to retaliate this time around, and let the silence respond to her. He finished eating, and pushed his bowl aside nonchalantly. I could see him looking at me, then at my book. Whats that trash you are reading? Its just a book Dad. I replied, an imitation of boredom. What, you cant even tell me that much now? How many times do you actually speak to your family in a week? Youve changed you know? (Gee Dad, you mean people change?). I rolled my eyes like I always do when he went off like that; a mad ejaculation of rhetorical questions. Whatever I say really is just going to be used against me in the near future, or in my mothers case, the distant too. Its like a freaking courthouse, and he blames me for not talking to him. Whoever invented the term catch twenty-two must know what I am thinking right now. There had better be educational value in that. He grunted at last, bulging his blood-shot eyes at an invisible spot across the room. Okay then. .u7b41f7683b7351f7b7634b6e4aa73794 , .u7b41f7683b7351f7b7634b6e4aa73794 .postImageUrl , .u7b41f7683b7351f7b7634b6e4aa73794 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u7b41f7683b7351f7b7634b6e4aa73794 , .u7b41f7683b7351f7b7634b6e4aa73794:hover , .u7b41f7683b7351f7b7634b6e4aa73794:visited , .u7b41f7683b7351f7b7634b6e4aa73794:active { border:0!important; } .u7b41f7683b7351f7b7634b6e4aa73794 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u7b41f7683b7351f7b7634b6e4aa73794 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u7b41f7683b7351f7b7634b6e4aa73794:active , .u7b41f7683b7351f7b7634b6e4aa73794:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u7b41f7683b7351f7b7634b6e4aa73794 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u7b41f7683b7351f7b7634b6e4aa73794 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u7b41f7683b7351f7b7634b6e4aa73794 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u7b41f7683b7351f7b7634b6e4aa73794 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u7b41f7683b7351f7b7634b6e4aa73794:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u7b41f7683b7351f7b7634b6e4aa73794 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u7b41f7683b7351f7b7634b6e4aa73794 .u7b41f7683b7351f7b7634b6e4aa73794-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u7b41f7683b7351f7b7634b6e4aa73794:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Modernist Style in Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkne Essay.. The Tumult And The Shouting Dies, The Captains And The Kings Depart. -
The tumult and the shouting dies, The captains and the kings depart. -Kipling, The Recessional Mr. Kipling was wrong. War does not always end with the last cry on the battlefield. World War I certainly did not. After the war formally ended on November 18, 1918, there was an ideological war still going on in the US. An ideological war which prompted mass paranoia and caused, among many other things, what would be known as the Red Scare, which began in 1919 and ended in 1921. Red Scare was the label given to the actions of legislation, the race riots, and the hatred and persecution of "subversives" and conscientious objectors during that period of time. It is this hysteria which would find itself repeated several decades later in history when Senator Joeseph R. Macarthy accused high government officials and high standing military officers of being communist. Undoubtedly the most important topic of an investigation into a historical occurrence is its inception. What caused the Red Scare ? At the heart of the Red Scare was the conscription law of May 18, 1917, which was put in place during World War I for the armed forces to be able to conscript more Americans. This law caused many problems for the conscientious objector to WWI, because for one to claim that status, one had to be a member of a "well-recognized" religious organization which forbade their members to participation in war. As a result of such unyeilding legislation, 20,000 conscientious objectors were inducted into the armed forces. Out of these 20,000, 16,000 changed their minds when they reached military camps, 1300 went to non-combat units, 1200 gained furloughs to do farm work, and 100 did Quaker relief work in Europe. 500 suffered court-martial, and out of these, 450 went to prison. However, these numbers are small in comparison with the 170,000 draft dodgers and 2,810,296 men who were inducted into the armed forces. Nevertheless, the conscientious objectors were targeted in the Red Scare after the war. They were condemned as cowards, pro-German socialists, although that was not everything. They were also accused of spreading propaganda throughout the United States. Very few conscientious objectors stood up for themselves. Roderick Siedenberg, who was a conscientious objector, wrote that "to steal, rape, or murder" are standard peacetime causes for imprisonment, but in time of war "too firm a belief in the words of Christ", and "too ardent a faith in the brotherhood of man" are more acceptable. Some organizations such as the National Civil Liberties Bureau, which would later be renamed the American Civil Liberties Union, took up the task of standing up for the rights of conscientious objectors. Before the war, the NCLB-ACLU opposed American involvement, and afterward defended the rights of the objectors. Later, the ACLU would gain a reputation for helping people with liberal cases who were too poor to pay for their own representation in court. After the real war ended in 19 18, the ideological war, which was gaining speed at home, turned against conscientious objectors and other radical minorities such as Wobblies, who were members of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW), and Socialists as well. These Wobblies and Socialists were damned as being subversives who were trying to overthrow the United States government. Wobblies, in particular, were persecuted against for speaking out against the capitalist system. Although most of what they said was only to attract attention to their cause, their rhetoric was taken seriously by the government and its officials. From the very beginning of the Red Scare, the Wobblies were the subject of attack by the government, because they were a symbol of radicalism. The government put in place legislation, not only against the Wobblies, but also against Socialists and Communists, due to the fact that the government did not distinguish one of its enemies from another. One such action taken by the government prevente d Wobblies who were not yet citizens from naturalization, even if they quit their organization. In 1917, the US government made a law which gave the Secretary of Labor the power to arrest or deport any alien "advocating or teaching" destruction of property or the "overthrow of government by force." Words such as "advocating"

Evolution Evidence essays
Evolution Evidence essays Evolution is the process of developmental unfolding that takes place over a long period of time, and starts with a simple form then gradually grows into a more complex organism. Humans, for example, have been evolving for about eight million years to mold us into what we are today. Evolution has been an extraordinary adventure through time: the evidence is the storyteller. All life started from a simple being and has stemmed to become more complex by two dominating factors natural selection and mutation. These are the key to evolutionary change and result in the complexity of the organism, therefore increases the survival rate. An example of this is used on girraffes. It starts with a mutation, imagine them before their long towering necks; the first giraffe that ever began to have one, was able to survive better than the one's that did not. This mutation is now beneficial to the giraffe because the food source on the ground was beginning to become scarce. By natural selection, the giraffe with the mutated long neck has a better chance of survival. They reproduce and pass down their modified genes, and eventually obtaining the leaves on the high trees are the only way to survive. This process spreads like the common cold in the winter; thus giraffes have long necks. Evolution is a fact of life. There is much debate whether evolution is fact or fiction. Fictions explanation for how the world is to the present date, begins with all humans were created in the image of God. The first two humans he created was a male and female: Adam and Eve. This theory has been proven false. There is a whole timeline of changes that humans have gone through since they had their first mutation, and stood on two feet instead of four like their closest relative: the ape. Three factual evidences that supports evolution's records in the journey through time are fossils records, biochemical similarit ...

Literary Analysis Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Literary Analysis - Essay Example In a similar manner, the resilient attitude of Martin Luther King was able to fortify the position of the African Americans until they were able to claim complete civil liberties. The adoption of non-violent norms meant that Gandhi and King both relied on their words to convince people to action. This stood in contrast to the use of violence by the forces opposed to both Gandhi and King. Effective communication was able to afford both Gandhi and King large audiences that later allowed them to change the fate of their nations. Words publicly spoken by Gandhi and King became their strongest tools for change. If the speeches made by Gandhi and King are looked into detail, it becomes clear that both use some common techniques such as repetition, the use of metaphors, advocating non violence and creating a strong sense of moral authority. However, there are certain rhetorical elements that are unique to Gandhi and Kingââ¬â¢s manner of speaking. This paper will look into various rhetori cal techniques used by Gandhi and King to induce a sense of moral authority and why this development is important. In order to carry out this analysis, this paper will focus on ââ¬Å"Gandhi Defends His Beliefsâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Martin Luther Addresses the Diet of Wormsâ⬠. ... In the start, Gandhi looked for greater political autonomy to provide greater freedoms in the current system of governance. However, the actions of the British and their intolerant political attitude soon convinced Gandhi that the current system was nothing more than eyewash. Gandhi took up arms in the form of his words to claim complete freedom from the British Empire. In his speech, Gandhi expresses his rage at the current system of governance by saying (Safire 363): ââ¬Å"I have no desire whatsoever to conceal from this court the fact that to preach disaffection toward the existing system of government has become almost a passion with me.â⬠Gandhiââ¬â¢s words clearly indicate that he is not fond of the governmentââ¬â¢s actions. However, Gandhi coats his words to create a moral authority which stands against the government but is still justified. In choosing his words, Gandhi ensures that his words do not hint at violence of any kind. He specifically chooses the word â â¬Å"disaffectionâ⬠to express his reaction towards the government. This choice of words ensures that the recipient audience are not pushed towards violence while they develop a certain distance from the government. Gandhi also uses the word ââ¬Å"passionâ⬠in order to express his fondness of hating the current system of governance. Although, it can be seen as an exaggeration but it cannot be denied that this combination of words has a significant effect. To provide his words with greater moral strength, Gandhi tends to repeat his idea of non-violence in his speech. Gandhi expressed this in the following words (Safire 364): ââ¬Å"I wanted to avoid violence, I want to avoid violence ââ¬â Nonviolence is the first article of my faith ââ¬â It is also the last article of my creed

Religious Diffusion in The Early Medieval Era Assignment
Religious Diffusion in The Early Medieval Era - Assignment Example Religious diffusion is a well-attested phenomenon that is scholarly considered controversial. Baghdad grew speedily into the ââ¬Å"worldââ¬â¢s navelâ⬠when caliph al-Mansur of the Muslims was established as the Abbasid Dynastyââ¬â¢s capital city. The spread of the Islamic religion gives us an excellent example of how both the empire and the religion intertwined to develop the foundation of modern social geography in the world. On the other hand, Chinese Buddhism or Christianity for which most empires acted as the major expansion drive; Islamic itself is the religion, which led to formation of many empires . The Islamic ascent from Arabia unified all the territories, which were between the other universal religions (Christianity and Buddhism) and unified the world in unpredictable forms. The only empire that resisted these universalizing faiths was the Tang Empire. Both Christianity and Buddhism resembled one another in important ways. Christianity could emphasize on how things of these earth are not essential, urging people to concentrate on their spiritual destiny as well as focusing on the divinity. It served as a major cultural revolution in the entire history of the west. Unsurprisingly, Christianity just like Buddhism brought essential monastic movement whereby people especially the holy ones decided to live in a spiritual manner as well as serving their religion . In essence, Buddhism teachings exemplarily show cultural diffusion took place in the medieval world history.

Kids Killing Kids :: Argumentative Persuasive Violence Essays
Kids Killing Kids As you wind down from a long day at the office, you turn on the six oââ¬â¢clock news. The opening story lays out a gruesome attempt to murder, maim, and terrorize children in a city you have never before heard of. Instantly, you are thinking that this must be a review for a soon to be released blockbuster movie. In your mind, nothing like this would ever happen in our civilized world; however, headlines they are. You picture the perpetrators as horrid, evil-minded monsters. What kind of person could commit such a crime against innocent children? As you listen further, your eyes open wide, your heart skips a beat, and you gasp in shock as you discover that these evil-minded monsters you had just envisioned are nothing more than pimple-faced, hormone driven teenagers. Yes, teenagers. As you begin to really absorb the impact of such a crime, you realize that the teenagers that committed this crime are not much older than your own children. Suddenly, you have the uncontrolla ble urge to find your children and hide them from the world. You ask yourself, ââ¬Å"What is wrong with society? What would cause a child to kill anther child? Where were their parents? How could this have happened?â⬠Then, you try to convince yourself that this could never happen in your community. Although fictional, this story is one that is happening in homes all over our country. The real problem is that the crime described above is only one of many that are being committed by our youth. In fact, juvenile crime as a whole is increasing at an alarming rate. It seems that our youth is at war with itself. On a self destructive path that must be altered. How? This is the question at hand. The viewer above asked himself questions that need to be asked, but more importantly they need to be answered. The answers are not as simple as they may seem. The rise in juvenile crime has awakened a heated debate between the liberals and conservatives of our country about the causes, effects, and solutions of such a widespread problem. The liberals argue that this problem can only be fixed through government control; whereas, the conservatives believe the problem can only be fixed at home.

Heart and Cardiac Muscle Essay
What is the heart? The heart is the organ that supplies blood and oxygen to all parts of the body. It is about the size of a clenched fist, weighs about 10.5 ounces and is shaped like a cone. The heart is located in the chest cavity just posterior to the breastbone, between the lungs and superior to the diaphragm. The heart is surrounded by a fluid filled sac called the pericardium. Blood is pumped away from the heart through arteries and returns to the heart through veins. The major artery of the body is the aorta and the major veins of the body are the vena cavae. Chambers of the Heart The heart is divided by a partition or septum into two halves. The halves are in turn divided into chambers. The upper two chambers of the heart are called atria and the lower two chambers are calledventricles. The atria receive blood returning to the heart from the body and the ventricles pump blood from the heart to the body. Valves allow blood to flow in one direction between the chambers of the heart. The Heart Wall The heart is composed of cardiac muscle which enable the heart to contract and allow the synchronization of the heart beat. The heart wall is divided into three layers: the epicardium, myocardium, and endocardium. * Epicardium ââ¬â outer protective layer of the heart. * Myocardium ââ¬â muscular middle layer wall of the heart. * Endocardium ââ¬â inner layer of the heart that is continuous with the inner lining of blood * Cardiac Conduction * Cardiac conduction is the rate at which the heart conducts electrical impulses. Cardiac muscle cells contract spontaneously and are coordinated by nodal tissue, specifically the sinoatrial node. There are other factors that influence heart rate as well. These include endocrine hormones, body temperature and exercise. * Cardiac Cycle * The cardiac cycle is the sequence of events that occur when the heart beats. There are two phases of this cycle which are the diastole and systole phases. During the diastole phase, the atria and ventricles are relaxed and blood flows into the atria and ventricles. In the systole phase, the ventricles contract sending blood to the rest of the body. A heartbeat is a two-part pumping action that takes about a second. As bloodcollects in the upper chambers (the right and left atria), the heartââ¬â¢s natural pacemaker (the SA node) sends out an electrical signal that causes the atria to contract. This contraction pushes blood through the tricuspid and mitral valves into the resting lower chambers (the right and left ventricles). This part of the two-part pumping phase (the longer of the two) is called diastole. The second part of the pumping phase begins when the ventricles are full of blood. The electrical signals from the SA node travel along a pathway of cells to the ventricles, causing them to contract. This is called systole. As the tricuspid and mitral valves shut tight to prevent a back flow of blood, the pulmonary and aortic valves are pushed open. While blood is pushed from the right ventricle into the lungs to pick up oxygen, oxygen-rich blood flows from the left ventricle to the heart and other parts of the body. After blood moves into the pulmonary artery and the aorta, the ventricles relax, and the pulmonary and aortic valves close. The lower pressure in the ventricles causes the tricuspid and mitral valves to open, and the cycle begins again. This series of contractions is repeated over and over again, increasing during times of exertion and decreasing while you are at rest. The heart normally beats about 60 to 80 times a minute when you are at rest, but this can vary. As you get older, your resting heart rate rises. Also, it is usually lower in people who are physically fit. Your heart does not work alone, though. Your brain tracks the conditions around youââ¬âclimate, stress, and level of physical activityââ¬âand adjusts your cardiovascular system to meet those needs. The human heart is a muscle designed to remain strong and reliable for a hundred years or longer. By reducing your risk factors for cardiovascular disease, you may help your heart stay healthy longer.

The Physics Of Mechanical Engineering - 961 Words
In our daily life we face challenges that we can relate to mechanical engineering, one of the common examples is the temperature in metal, which is the thermal expansion. Mechanical engineers use combination of material, human and economic resources to develop mechanical solutions that help satisfy the needs and wants of society. They must be confident and accurate when making decisions. Engineers try to look at the problems in the society and come with innovative ideas in order to solve the difficulties. Engineering industry has a wide variety of jobs such as civil engineer where you over-watch bridges, buildings, and the other important structures; it makes sure everything is up to code for large building and structures. Mechanical engineering works on mechanical systems and other complex mechanics, such as; cranes and airplane motors. Work experience as an engineer is very important because when projects are being built, calculations should be accurate in all details, otherwise the projects will fail and that may cause deaths. In addition, knowing how to react in certain situations under certain circumstances is an essential part of being an engineer. Operation Management Restocking of Shelves
Question: Discuss about the Operation Management for Restocking of Shelves. Answer: Introduction: The first change that Wall-mart can bring is to improve the look of their store is to lower their shelf size in the entrance and reduce tidiness in the store by cutting down on the number of products. Customer complaint that the restocking of shelves is not fast enough and it lacks cleanliness and tidiness. As a result, the store design and the layout have to compromise with the customer convenience. Additionally, the customer also feels that the in-house layout is not well-maintained and representative enough to attract the customer. Taken for instance, in apparel section, there is no fashion message and it is not well assorted by style, size, or color due to less space. Thus, stocking of huge products in the inventory and use fewer racks in the physical stores will be an improvement in the appearance of the warehouse. All the stock items can be displayed digitally and on being requested it can be brought to the customer from the inventory. It is evident that from the first change, it will wipe out significant revenue and thus it is important to increase the product n a different way so that more products can be served to the customer. Thus, formulating more inventory space for storing all kind of the goods will be a move for improvement. Moreover, many experts argued that Wal-Mart need to improve traffic-driving side businesses for care clinic, financial services and gas facilities by designing their layout and address their concern towards the traffic pattern and site plans. The primary reason these experts provides is that recently opened stores are not quite as good as prior ones." Taken for instance, in the US, the new Wal-Mart-store in Creekside Park faces difficulty with their auto center that faces the Timber Creek Elementary School. So, a step for improvement is the collaboration with the coalitions and Creekside Park residents. Justification for improvement in layout The justification regarding with the first change is that Wal-Mart sells different sizes of the same brand and they can limit the size of the same products to two to three. This will reduce the tidiness and enhances the cleanliness of the store. In addition to that, by lowering the size of the shelves at the entrance or checkout points will be beneficial as it can provide shoppers to see the whole store when they come for shopping and can navigate their destination easily. In addition to that, the implementation of digital shopping option in the physical store of Wal-Mart will allow the users to room to play and can navigate easily to their destination on the digital menu boards (See Appendix, Figure 1). These menus can also perform as an entertainment source like watching TV and see how their cars are being served outside. The justification regarding the second improvement is that effective collaboration ensures the support of the alliance and other construction in the neighborhood and affects fewer natural resource. The collaboration of the unified community finds solutions that mitigate risks caused by the construction of the new inventory of the physical store. Reference List Ahire, Sanjay L., Manoj K.
